He is still very much alive, still with with Real Madrid but the airport of Funchal, the capital of the island already bears his name and on the harbour walkway, there is an enormous bronze statue of him to celebrate his glory. My son grew up in Aubervilliers. He wanted at first to win the Tour de France before dreaming himself as a Zidane, just like a lot of his friends. I photographed them in 1998. In 2003 I met up with them again...
Their portraits were shown with those of Suzanne Brun, Fred Jacquemont, Pierre Terrasson, Willy Vainqueur and Willy Ronis in an outdoor-exhibition on the bars of a park in the town of Aubervilliers.
